Wai'anapanapa State Park

Waianapanapa Sign

Beautiful beach park on the Road to Hana

Wai'anapanapa means "glistening fresh water" in the Hawaiian language, and this is exactly what you will find when visiting Wai'anapanapa State Park.

Located near Hana, on Maui, Wai'anapanapa State Park offers visitors the chance to partake in a classic tropical island paradise experience. With a black sand beach for sunbathing and wading, deep blue ocean pools for swimming and diving, and waves crashing on rugged volcanic rock formations draped with glistening green foliage, this park provides an unforgettable island experience. If the ocean and cliffs were not enough for you, Wai'anapanapa is also home to an oceanside lava tube that offers visitors the chance for a little subterranean exploration.

Merely getting to Wai'anapanapa State Park is an adventure in itself, as the park is located 50 miles from Kahului, along the Hana Highway. This road is an experience not to be missed by the adventurous. The narrow road follows the north shore of Maui as it twists and turns along cliffs, past dozens of beautiful waterfalls, and plunges in and out of the lush tropical forest. The road is paved, so rental cars are permitted to drive here, but be aware that this drive will require your full attention. For those who would rather watch the passing scenery than watch the road there are also van tours available for the trip to Wai'anapanapa and the nearby town of Hana.
