How can you save me money?
As your booking agent, Aloha Rents will request quotes from our six (or more, depending on location) major, national car rental companies. These quotes will factor in information you provide on our Rental Form page. We are able to offer low, corporate rates, not offered to individual renters, nor available through most other booking agencies. Our goal is to see that you rent the right car at the lowest possible price. We select the lowest quote price for you and make an (easy-cancel) reservation and send it to you via email.
What is “Lowest Rate Available”?
It’s our way of simplifying your online rental experience. When you choose our “Lowest Rate Available” option on the request form, we’ll personally review your rental request and then select the company that offers you the most affordable car.
What’s different about the cars you rent?
The corporate price discount we offer you is unique and available to all. The vehicles are the same shiny ones the rental company makes available, at a higher price, to their other customers.
Can I request the color of my vehicle?
We are no longer able to request a specific color from our car rental partners. Thank you for your understanding.
Must I fill out a new form for each car I’m renting during my stay in Hawaii?
Not at this site! Whether you need several cars at one location, or plan to island hop, we ask you to fill out only one form. To add additional vehicles, click the “Rent an Additional Car” button and your information will automatically be forwarded to the next request form.
I contacted a major rental car company and was told they had no cars for my travel dates, yet I can rent one of their vehicles from you. Why?
The very company (Thrifty, Enterprise, Dollar, National, Hertz, Avis, Advantage etc.) you contacted was kind enough to set aside a large number of cars for us. They honor their commitment to us in exchange for our handling online rental details for them.
Why does it take soooo long for you to return a reservation to me?
Each no-obligation reservation we send out is processed by a real person. Our reservation's specialist receives your request, notes each of your individual requests (number of drivers, dates, vehicle requirements and any special requests) and then contacts our rental partners to obtain the most affordable price for you. This sometimes takes time, but it relieves you from the guess-work of the car rental world.
Do young drivers pay more to rent a car?
Car rental companies require that all drivers must be 21 years of age, or older. “Young drivers” fall between the ages of 21 and 24. We are able to book with rental companies that have reduced young driver fees.
Can I add additional drivers without paying more?
Yes--- at most times of the year! Let us know, so we can book your rental with a company that offers this.
Do weekly, reduced rental rates begin on Day 7?
Hawaii rental cars can be kept in increments of days, weeks or by months.
Try your best to return your vehicle as close to its return time as possible. Charges can be added if you return your car just 60 minutes late. And, returning your vehicle too early, generally one day, can also bring surcharges.
Can I rent any additional equipment through you?
We are able to offer Child Safety Seats and GPS equipment. All additional equipment is subject to availability and should be requested at the rental counter.
My visit to the islands will include travel to 3 islands in 7 days. I will need a rental car for each island. Do you offer a weekly discount for multiple-island rentals?
Unfortunately, due to industry-wide policy, none of our rental partners offers a multiple-island discount. Each island's reservation will be considered an individual, separate rental. When you stay 5 or more days at one of those destinations, we will happily offer our weekly discount for that rental.
Can I take a rental car on the Hawaii Superferry?
The Hawaii Superferry is no longer in service. In the past, customers using the Hawaii Superferry had to obtain a Superferry Addendum which allowed one to transport a vehicle on board the vessel.
Why aren't the taxes and any additional fees (government fees or taxes) included in the posted rates?
We post the Current Rates common to all locations. Taxes can vary by location and certain taxes are location specific and therefore can't be included on our rates page. Your paperwork will include all charges associated with the rental you request. The general formula for calculating taxes is found here.
Is my online reservation guaranteed?
Yes! Although we require no deposit or credit information, your reservation is guaranteed. Once booked, your email reservation confirmation will arrive shortly.
Why didn't I get my email confirmation?
Spam filters can catch the confirmation and treat it as spam. If your email program or provider maintains a folder with email that has been filtered, you might find the message has been routed there.
Why is my rental confirmation email important?
The confirmation will provide you with all charges, including all govt. imposed taxes and fees, you can expect to pay for your rental car. It will let you know your rental is guaranteed.
What if I need to cancel my reservation?
We respectfully request that you contact us via email on this website. There are no cancellation penalties.
Can I rent a car with a Debit Card?
Yes! Unless you are under 25 yrs of age. Young drivers (21-25) must use a major credit card when picking up a rental car.
For drivers 25 yrs. and older, be sure your Debit Card shows the Visa or Mastercard logo on it. After obtaining a reservation, you can research more information online at your rental company’s site regarding credit and debit cards.
What documents and information will I need to carry when I pick up the vehicle?
All rental companies require each driver to show a valid driver’s license at their rental desk. A major credit or debit card is also required to rent a car. You will find more information online at your rental company’s site.
I’m visiting the U.S. Will I need to obtain any additional license’s to rent a car in Hawaii?
No. An International Driving License is not required. We suggest you check online at your rental Company site for more information about international driving requirements. You may be asked to show your passport at the rental desk.
Am I required to purchase auto insurance when I rent my vehicle?
Before you leave home, check with your auto insurance agent to determine if your carry adequate rental-car insurance. If you do, any further insurance purchases will be your choice. For specific insurance requirements, refer to your rental company’s website.
Can I drive my rental car off-road?
All national car rental companies limit driving on a handful of rough, island roads. You'll be happy to know that few roads in the Hawaiian Islands are restricted. What should I do in case of a driving emergency?
Your rental company will provide Emergency Roadside Assistance. Their contact number will be included with your rental agreement.
What if my travel dates begin in the "Regular" rate timeframe and end in the "Summer" rate period?
The rate is fully dictated by the pick-up date. Your pick-up date of June 11th is still in low season. Thus, you will pay the lower rate for your entire trip.
Current requirements for infant and child safety seats in Hawaii?
Hawaii state law requires that all children under the age four be restrained in a federally approved child safety seat. The current law requires that children ages four through seven ride in a booster seat or car seat any time they are in a vehicle. The only exceptions are for children taller than 4'9" or those riding in vehicles with lap-only seatbelts in rear seats.
Hawaii's law advises that children who have outgrown harnessed car seats (those who weigh between 40 and 65 pounds) should use a booster seat until they fit an adult seatbelt properly. This typically occurs when a child is at least 4'9" tall and weighs at least 80 pounds.
Will there be a deposit required when I pick-up my car?
All of the companies have similar policies. One of our large rental car companies places a hold on all credit/debit cards for the estimated amount of the rental plus 15 percent or 250.00 whichever is greater.
Do you offer special Kama'aina, AAA, AARP or other special rates?
We can offer you a really great rate, but there is no need to use AARP, AAA or other memberships. We'll also offer the same rates to your grandmother, your neighbor, your tennis buddy and the surfer from Hawaii who's looking for a wave. There’s no need to ask us for a Kama’aina, AAA, AARP or Student rate. You're getting our best rate.
Our negotiations with our rental car companies are what make our vehicles the lowest priced ones you’ll find on the Internet. We offer our rates to everyone, regardless of age, sex, income, race or hometown.
